Country's top offshore wind farm to go grid this month

The country's largest offshore wind power project cluster, located near Yancheng, Jiangsu province, is expected to get connected to the grid by the end of this year.

The cluster will have an annual clean power transmission capacity of 17.3 billion kilowatt-hours, and can supply around half of the city's residential power needs, said its operator State Power Investment Corp.

This is the latest effort by Yancheng, a city of over 7 million residents, to further develop clean energy, including wind and solar, as China aims to peak carbon emissions by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2060.

By the end of November, installed capacity of new energy in Yancheng reached 67 percent, ranking tops in East China.

By the end of October, China saw its wind power installed capacity reaching 300 million kilowatts, up 30.4 percent compared with the same period a year earlier. Installed capacity for solar power reached 280 million kW, up 23.7 percent year-on-year. Installed capacity for both wind and solar power projects ranked tops globally.
